17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. 18 He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.
The third powerful promise is that:
- God promises His purposeful plan—God is always Good (18)
If God never changes and everything He gives us is good and perfect, then why doesn’t it always look like it? Why do the tests in our lives sometimes look more like trouble than treasure? Because we don’t see the finished picture. Every tapestry has a front side and a backside. If we only ever looked at the backside, we would conclude based on the mess of knots that it was a mistake. But when we get a glimpse of the front side and see the finished picture, we realize that what at first may have looked like a mistake is actually a masterpiece. God doesn’t make mistakes He makes masterpieces. God shows up in our mess and does a miracle, He saves us from our sin and makes us Saints. The problem is most of us see ourselves as a mess instead of as a miracle. You may have made mistakes, but you are not a mistake. So, stop basing your worth on what the world says and base it on His Word. Because His Word says that you are God’s prized possession, His masterpiece, His treasured tapestry. The voice you listen to will determine the value you place on your life and the life of those around you. Let God do the weaving not the world. When you trust the weaver you will let Him work. His value of you is not based on your performance but His provision. Many of us are basing our value on our work instead of His Word, which means your value is based on a performance driven life instead of a peace directed life. Why does Satan try to sell us the lie that our worth is based on work, so that our worship is built on our unfinished work instead of God’s forgiving work. Satan wants you to waste your life on work-based worship instead of worthwhile worship because it will wear you out. If your worship is wearing you out its not worship its work, legalism has eclipse love and guilt has hijacked giving. But if we are basing our lives on the bible then God’s Word won’t just affect our worth it will impact the way we view other people. Because as believers we should look at people from God’s perspective and see them not as trash but as His treasure. That means we will prize people not possessions. So, here is your homework to prepare you to pass the test of loving people not possessions. I want you to ask 5 people you don’t know, over the next 2 weeks what is one thing I can pray for you? I want you to start seeing people. When you go in a store, I want you to see the souls not the stuff, you are not there just to shop, your there to serve. Today we want the promise to be based on a problem free life, but God promises us His provision, His permanent position and purposeful plan in the problems. Are you holding onto His hope? It’s time to not just hear the promises but to hold onto them.
